PMRDA to Begin Tender Process for Chakan's Rs 100 Crore Bypass Road Project

To address the severe traffic congestion in Chakan, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced that the tender process for the proposed Rashephata-Kadachiwadi-Medankarwadi bypass road will begin soon. PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase confirmed that Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for the project, and the budget is in its final stages.

The bypass, which has been under discussion for three decades, is seen as a vital solution for Chakan’s traffic woes. Despite its importance, the project has faced delays, frustrating local residents, industrialists, and commuters. Public representatives, including Medankarwadi Sarpanch Amol Salve and Shiv Sena district chief Ashok Khandebharad, have urged PMRDA to expedite the work.

The 36-meter-wide, four-lane bypass will connect Rashephata, Kadachiwadi, Medankarwadi, and Bangla Vasti over a 2.5 km stretch. It will divert industrial traffic from Pune-Nashik Highway, Chakan-Shikrapur, and Chakan-Talegaon roads, easing congestion in Chakan town. This will also reduce accidents and ensure quicker movement for ambulances.

In 2021, PMRDA officials, police, and traffic authorities conducted surveys to finalize the bypass’s boundaries. Advanced mapping techniques were used, but the work has not progressed since. Citizens have demanded immediate action and warned against keeping the project in limbo.

Most of the land required for the project belongs to farmers. PMRDA has assured compensation through cash and FSI. Construction will begin after land acquisition.

Residents believe the bypass will significantly improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and save lives.
