Police action against illegal sale of Gutkha in Pune

Pune: Pune city police raided 22 shops across the city and seized banned gutkha products worth Rs 2.97 Lakh. During the raid, police arrested 22 people.

Police have decided to take stringent action against banned gutkha products in various pan shops across the city. According to which on Thursday, police raided pan shops which comes under the jurisdiction of  19 police stations including Hadapsar,Loni Kalbhor,Mundhawa,Visharntwadi, Vimantal,Yerwada,Chatushrungi, Chandannagar,Kothrud, Singhgad road,Warje-Malwadi, Uttamnagar,Bharati Vidyapeeth, Daatawadi, Samarth, Sahakar Nagar,Deccan,Shivaji Nagar and Faraskhana.

Senior Police officers confirmed they have arrested 22 people and booked 32 people for illegal storage and sale of banned gutkha products from their pan shops.

DCP Crime Amol Zende said,“This is routine action under which we have registered 22 cases for illegal sale of banned gutka products across various places in the city. We will continue such actions to control illegal sale of banned gutkha products in the city.

Zende further said that, we have also conducted awareness campaigns in various schools and colleges so that students keep away from such banned products.
