The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released a list of candidates for upcoming by-elections to the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra. The party has fielded Ashwini Laxman Jagtap from Chinchwad seat while Hemant Rasane has been given a ticket to contest from Kasba constituency.

The Chinchwad and Kasaba Assembly seats were vacant after the death of BJP leader Laxman Jagtap and MLA Mukta Tilak and hence the election was necessary.

Bye-elections of these two assembly constituencies, each in Pune district, will be held on February 26. The counting of votes to all bypolls will be held on March 2.

As per the schedule declared by the election commission of India, the last date for nomination is February 7, scrutiny is February 8 and withdrawal of candidature is February 10. Earlier the bypoll election date was scheduled on February 27 . However, the election commission had rescheduled the voting schedule following a request from the district election officer as school and college premises will be occupied on February 27 for Higher Secondary School and graduation examinations.
