In an attempt to become a smart city in reality, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is making several changes to its infrastructure. This includes roads, footpath, cable work and installation of CCTV cameras. More than 3500 CCTV cameras have been installed within the city at most of the signal and squares. Lack of room to watch the footages was giving the reckless drivers, a chance to escape. This is no longer possible as PCMC has got a separate place at the police Commissionerate office to watch the footage and take action.

“Since last month, we have started taking action on reckless drivers. Our team keeps a watch on drivers from our command centre located near bhakti shakti chowk, Nigadi. There are still places where CCTV installation is going on. At other places where traffic rules are broken, photo is captured by CCTV and a message is sent on their mobile with the fine amount.

If they fail to pay, a case of filed against them. A team of 6 people – 1 officer and 5 employees under the officer work on this. Traffic violations like signal jumping, vehicle standing on zebra crossing, triple seat driving, driver without seat belt and not following traffic rules are monitored. We at least 150 to 200 cases,” said Satish Mane, Assistant Commissioner of Police Transport Department.

He further appealed to all citizens to follow the driving rules for the safety of all.
