The plastic ban has not been effective in the twin cities of Pimpri Chinchwad and so, the health department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation plans to install 100 cloth bag vending machines in crowded market areas, to promote the use of cloth bags among residents.

A cloth bag vending machine has been placed within the premises of PCMC on an experimental basis. Though the machine is smaller in size, the officials of the department plan to install a bigger machine in different places in the city.

According to Ganesh Deshpande, health officer, PCMC, “The idea is to install 100 such vending machines within the market places of the city, so that people are forced to use cloth bags. We have already earmarked the places and these bags will be sold at Rs 5 for a smaller bag and Rs10 for a bigger bag.”
