With the aim to continue India’s status of being Polio-free and protect children from Polio virus, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started the initiative to start a campaign for Polio virus vaccination which will be held from Sunday, 3rd March 2024 to Friday, 8th March, 2024. 

According to officials, over 3 lakh children from the age of 0 – 5 will be vaccinated in this campaign. 

“A total of 1,400 booths with 102 fixed booths for Polio Immunisation will be set up by PMC”, said Dr. Rajesh Dighe, Chief Immunization officer, PMC. 

Moreover, they have appointed 26 mobile teams and 20 night teams to visit labour’s camps and children living on the streets to make sure that even they get vaccinated. In addition to this, the mobile team will go door-to-door to vaccinate the children who are not able to reach the centre to take vaccine. 

The body will also take help from nursing colleges and National cadet Corps (NCC) students for the campaign. 

The officials of World Heath Organisation’s (WHO) will hold training sessions for PMC Healthcare officials on Monday, 12th January, 2024 who will be a part of the campaign. 

On Tuesday, 12th February, 2024, a meeting will be held with Schools, the Pediatric Doctor Association, Non-Government Organisation’s (NGO) and stakeholders of the campaign by Vimram Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, Head of City task force for Polio Immunisation. 

According to officials, once the Polio vaccine is received it will it will immediately be distributed at ward level by PMC.
