Despite the monsoon not officially arriving in Maharashtra yet, intense thunderstorms and hailstorms have already begun wreaking havoc from Konkan to Vidarbha.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a developing western disturbance is likely to bring rain to central Indian states, including Maharashtra, within the next 24 hours. Pre-monsoon conditions are becoming favorable, with heavy rainfall and hail warnings issued for Central Maharashtra and Marathwada. An orange alert is in place for these regions, while Konkan and Vidarbha are under a yellow alert.

The active low-pressure zone stretching from the central Arabian Sea to Gujarat’s Saurashtra and further from Marathwada to North Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the Gulf of Mannar is creating a conducive atmosphere for widespread rainfall in Maharashtra.

Thunderstorm Warning for Mumbai
IMD has forecast thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30-40 km/h and rain over Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar in the next 24 hours. Except for a few morning hours, cloudy weather is expected to persist throughout the day in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, this intense weather has already damaged crops across the state. In Nashik, pomegranates, grapes, harvested onions, and vegetables have suffered. Four people have lost their lives in separate weather-related incidents, with Marathwada being among the worst hit. Reports of livestock casualties have also emerged.
