Pune: 23-year-old man arrested in the recent hit-and-run case of a pregnant woman

The police have registered a case under sections 279, 337, and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, alleging rash and negligent driving.

A 32-year-old pregnant lady was hit by a car on the road, and the driver fled the scene in Nighoje. On Sunday, the Mahalunge police located and apprehended the driver of the car. This incident occurred on June 8, at about 5:30 p.m.

Fortunately, she wasn’t seriously injured in the collision, the five-month-pregnant woman had facial, back, and head injuries. According to the police, there was no harm to the foetus.

Roshan Yelwande, a 23-year-old driver from Nighoje, has been arrested in this regard. His medical test revealed alcohol content in his blood, and charges of drunk driving have been invoked. The police have registered a case under sections 279, 337, and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, alleging rash and negligent driving.

Yelwande, who was initially questioned by police, denied waiting at the accident site due to fear of a thrashing from bystanders. Eyewitnesses noted the car’s registration number as it drove off, helping track the driver. A woman complained to Mahalunge MIDC police on Sunday, stating she was walking to visit their new bungalow site on Dehu Road-Nighoje Road.

A woman was knocked down by a hatchback car near Nighoje while walking. She was thrown into the air and fell on the road. Locals alerted her husband, who took her to Dehugaon and later to a hospital in Baner. Yelwande, who was driving his brother’s car at the time, has been seized, stated a police official.
