By a margin of 1,22,762 votes, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Murlidhar Mohol defeated Congress contender Ravindra Dhangekar. 5,84,171 votes were cast for the former, and 4,61,409 for the latter in Pune. As Murlidhar Mohol’s leadership journey continues, the city eagerly awaits further strides towards prosperity and equitable development.

Pune Platform for collaborative response has raised pressing demands for the Pune airport to the new MP. One of the members, Dr. Sudhir Mehta, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to release the organisation’s wish list; he stated in his post, “Our

 wish list  for #Pune airport for

@mohol_murlidhar

 ji

1. Commencing operations of the new terminal .

2. Even distribution of flight slots by IAF to accommodate more flight in day time.

2. Additional International air connectivity with Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha by full service carriers

4. Extension of runway to accommodate wide body aircraft

5. Development city side road networks around airport area including provision of flyover.

6.  Requirement of additional land for expansion of airport and air cargo.

7.  Provision of independent International airport for pune region.”

The post has garnered quite a lot of responses and engagement from other Pune citizens. Appreciating the wishlist one X user commented,

 “Nicely summarized. Hope we can meet our new minister soon to discuss and push these long standing issues!”

Others pointed out some drawbacks in the wishlist; one user said, “Points 5,6, & 7 are very important, and must do!

Point 1 is a no brainer

Point 2 & 4 are issues with the defence

Also with Pune being a live IAF airbase, I see some restrictions on foreign (MEA) countries landing here, the Defence ministry & MoCA will have a lot to say”.

While another remarked, “Asking for Pune airport Dev does not help common man. No one goes every day. Priority is to bring back city infra and resolve citizen issues in city. We have airports in Mumbai and people have been using for yrs. I don’t understand why people are obsessed on airport”.
