On June 4th, after heavy rains in the city, the compound of an unauthorized building suffered a landslide like situation, collapsing into the parking lot of Nirman Viva Society in Ambegaon Budruk. The landslide exposed some columns of two unauthorized buildings constructed on the edge of Ambegaon Pathar, which is 50-60 feet high. The exposed columns have placed the buildings in danger of collapse, leading to the evacuation of Buildings B and C of Nirman Viva, located on the lower side. So far, 36 flat holders have taken shelter in the Club House.

Immediate action is needed to address this issue to prevent potential fatalities. Unauthorized buildings like Mayuresh Park and Balaji Park, constructed by Manoj Patil, a society builder, on the mountain ridge of Ambegaon Plateau, are currently precariously suspended due to allegedly improper foundations. If they collapse, they will fall onto the Nirman Viva buildings, as there is only a 10 to 15-foot gap between them. The stone debris from the compound of the unauthorized buildings has already fallen into Nirman Viva’s parking lot.

Nirman Developers, represented by Sule and Sandeep Maheshwari, have reportedly constructed buildings near the mountain without a secured wall, making the area hazardous.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Pradip Wandhekar, a resident of Nirman Viva Society, said, “No action for resolving this critical issue has been taken. Officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation have just told us to evacuate the society. If it rains more, there is a high chance of more columns falling onto our building, posing a significant threat to the lives of people in the society.”

A total of 36 families reside in the Nirman Viva Society of Ambegaon.
