The Pune Rural Police has seized 365.02 kg of illegally grown opium worth Rs 14 lakh 81 thousand from February to 12th March 2024.

As per further information shared by Pune Rural Police,

NDPS Action (Opium Farming)

According to NDPS Act, Pune Rural Police took action against the opium producer.

During the period from February 1 to March 12, 2024, various teams of rural police have destroyed and confiscated 365.02 kg of opium (poppy) cultivation worth Rs. 14 lakh 81 thousand.

The bar of action will be continued against the smugglers including opium and ganja producers.

Farmers should not cultivate opium, ganja under the name of crop to get quick money. Otherwise, strict action will be taken against the concerned as per NDPS Act.

On 12th March 2024, the Pune Rural Police had seized 15 kg opium from a farm in Kirkatwadi. Onion crops were planted in the fields to hide the opium cultivation. A total of 11978 plants with opium pods weighing 14.450 kg at the said place cost Rs 28,700 have been confiscated. A case under Sections 8B, 8A, 17C of the NDPS Act has been registered at Haveli Police Station against both the names.
