Pune, August 2024 – A tragic incident occurred in Bhagyoday Nagar, Kondhwa, where a 40-year-old woman was electrocuted around 5:30 PM. According to eyewitness Haji Feroze Shaikh, the woman stepped into a pool of accumulated rainwater while on her way to work. She sustained a fatal shock from a live wire connected to an MSEB cable that had come into contact with the water.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. Fire brigade officials reported receiving a distress call from a local resident, prompting them to dispatch a team to the site. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, identified as an employee from Nagaland, was unnoticed by passersby due to the umbrella she was carrying, which obscured the view of her in the water. It was only when a nearby resident saw something floating in the water that the gravity of the situation became clear.

MSEDCL has since shut off the power supply in the area to prevent further accidents. The electricity in the affected area is expected to be restored by tomorrow.

Haji Feroz Shaikh Social Activist from Kondhwa confirmed the incident. He said there are many MSEDCL electric dp boxes which get submerged in the water. The lady was walking on the road when she came in contact with the dp box which was releasing current in water. She died on the spot.

This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of the area’s infrastructure, particularly illegal structures that may have contributed to the short circuit. Questions are being asked about who should be held accountable for this tragic loss of life.
