Pune, September 3, 2025 – With just a day left for citizens to submit objections and suggestions on the draft ward delimitation for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections, the process has drawn significant public response. Till September 1, a total of 595 objections have been filed, and officials expect the number to rise before the September 4 deadline.

The Maharashtra government has appointed senior bureaucrat V Radha to conduct a public hearing on the objections received. Hearings will be held between September 5 and 12, following which the officer will submit a detailed report with recommendations to the State Election Commission. Based on this, the government will finalize and publish the ward delimitation map.

Opposition parties, including Congress and NCP(SP), have strongly criticized the draft, alleging it favors the BJP. They claim natural boundaries such as rivers, roads, and nullahs have been ignored, which could adversely affect ward-level development.

Concerns have also been raised over reserved-category localities being split across wards, potentially affecting social justice and representation.

Currently, PMC is under administrative rule since the last elected body’s term ended in 2022. Elections were delayed but ordered by the Supreme Court to be conducted at the earliest.
