Pune, January 22, 2026: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest outside Modern College on Tuesday, alleging delays in scholarship distribution and shortcomings in security and basic student amenities across the Arts, Commerce, Science and BBA campuses.
According to the organisation, a detailed memorandum outlining student concerns had been submitted to the college administration on January 12. They claimed that despite repeated follow-ups, no action was taken, prompting students to demonstrate.

The protest ended after ABVP representatives handed over another memorandum to officiating principal Shashikant Deshmukh, who assured that the issues would be resolved within a specific timeframe.

ABVP leader Radheya Bahegavankar said students are facing multiple issues such as delayed scholarships, non-functional CCTV cameras at entry points, inadequate security for female students, neglected sports infrastructure, inactive placement cell, outdated computer laboratories, lack of clean drinking water, weak network connectivity, unhygienic surroundings, absence of first-aid services, and errors in marksheets affecting academic documentation.

Students also complained about denial of hall tickets over unpaid fees, sudden cancellation of lectures, political interference on official platforms and slow administrative processes. The situation at the BBA campus was described as more serious, with no canteen for two years, limited library space, poor condition of women’s washrooms, lack of sanitary napkins, presence of bouncers on campus, irregular lectures and high examination fees.

College principal Nivedita Ekbote, currently on special leave, visited the students and stated that most demands were basic and were already being worked on. Deshmukh added that several issues had been resolved and the remaining would be addressed within 60 days.

The ABVP warned that it would intensify its agitation if solutions are not implemented within the promised period.
