In a serious case of drunk driving, a crane operator under the influence of alcohol rammed into the official vehicle of an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer near Mangirbaba Chowk on Sinhagad Road, Pune, late Saturday night. The IAF officer and his driver narrowly escaped unharmed, though the vehicle sustained major damage.
Vehicle Was En Route to National Defence Academy (NDA)
The IAF vehicle, which was on its way to the National Defence Academy (NDA), was struck from behind by the crane. The impact caused significant damage, raising concerns over road safety and highlighting the dangers of operating heavy machinery under the influence.
Driver Arrested for Rash and Negligent Driving
The Parvati police responded promptly to the incident. They have arrested the crane driver and booked him under charges of rash and negligent driving along with driving under the influence (DUI). A medical test confirmed the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Investigation Underway
A formal complaint was lodged by the IAF driver on Sunday, prompting an official investigation. Police officials have assured that strict legal action will be taken to prevent such reckless behavior on city roads.
