While some Pune schools have begun preparing to remove students who were enrolled in Class 1 and studied through Class 8 under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, Sharad Gosavi, the director of primary education, has released a circular clarifying that no school can expel RTE students after Class 8 if parents are willing to pay the fees of the respective school and the students wish to finish their education there.

It has been discovered that certain schools are forcing students to receive their school leaving certificates, according to the circular. The mental health of students may be impacted if they receive their school leaving certificates under duress. Therefore, the aforementioned child should not be refused admission to the school or be forced to drop out if the RTE students have chosen to continue their education there after Class 8 and their parents are willing to pay the fees assessed by the institution and retain their admission.

Gosavi has directed all relevant education officers to give stringent directives to every school that has granted admission under RTE 25% and to carry out the same at their own level.

Prior to this, the school in Pune, sent parents a letter informing them that RTE students would receive a school leaving certificate upon completion of Class 8. The state director of primary education, Gosavi, released the circular after the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena voiced objections, protested against the school, and complained to the state director of education.

According to MNVS, a letter regarding the students’ expulsion from the school was received from the School. The MNVS voiced opposition to it. A complaint was also submitted to the director of education regarding the school. Now, the school has received a letter from the director. In the event that the school disobeys the law, they will enforce it themselves.

The RTE Act was recently amended by the state education department. As a result, if a government or subsidised school is located within a kilometer of an unsubsidized English-medium school, the unsubsidized school will not be eligible for RTE admission. The parents are upset about the amendment. According to the RTE Act, schools are only eligible for fee reimbursements up to Class 8; as a result, students must find another school after Class 8.
