Pune, December 11, 2025: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Pune Customs Commissionerate (Pune Zone) has booked a major case of narcotics smuggling at Pune International Airport, seizing high-value hydroponic weed (marijuana) and arresting a woman passenger.

According to officials, the operation was carried out on December 6 following precise passenger profiling and intelligence inputs. AIU officers intercepted a woman arriving on Air India Express Flight IX 241 and conducted a detailed examination of her baggage.

During the search, officers recovered 722 grams of hydroponic weed, concealed inside two sealed cylindrical cans disguised with chips packaging on the exterior. The seized contraband is valued at approximately ₹72.2 lakh in the illicit market.

The narcotics were confiscated under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officials said further investigation is underway to identify the source of the consignment and determine its intended recipients.

The Pune Commissionerate reaffirmed its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and dismantling smuggling networks operating through air routes. The case continues to be probed by the Air Intelligence Unit.
