A man posing as an orthopedic surgeon (MS) was exposed as a fake doctor on Friday, January 10, in Wagholi.

The man was caught when he visited a local blood test laboratory, seeking space to open a clinic. The lab operator became suspicious after the man failed to provide a degree certificate or a valid registration number.

On further investigation, it was revealed that no one with his name had obtained an MS degree. Under questioning, the man admitted he was only a 10th-grade pass and had previously worked as a compounder.

The suspect, along with his parents, was taken to the police station for questioning. However, during the proceedings, his mother pretended to feel dizzy, prompting officials to take her to a nearby hospital. Taking advantage of the situation, the man and his parents fled, leaving the police stunned.

Before escaping, the man confessed to purchasing a fake medical degree online. He also claimed that many others had done the same in the past three years.  The incident has raised alarm about the growing issue of bogus doctors operating with fraudulent credentials. Police are now investigating the matter further and are on the lookout for the suspect and his parents.

The vigilance of the lab operator played a crucial role in exposing the fake doctor. Their alertness potentially saved lives by preventing the suspect from practicing medicine without proper qualifications.

Authorities urge the public to verify credentials before consulting doctors to avoid such risks.
