Pune, November 27, 2025 – The Balewadi Welfare Federation on Monday evening, along with Shri Khanderav Pratishthan, has submitted a formal representation to the District Excise Department highlighting the severe inconvenience and harassment faced by citizens due to the liquor shop located near Mamta Chowk, Balewadi.

Residents have reported that individuals purchasing alcohol from this shop frequently consume liquor openly near the barricades erected for the metro construction. Empty bottles are discarded in public spaces, and instances of public urination have been observed. In addition, vehicles are parked haphazardly on this busy road, creating traffic congestion and safety hazards.

The issue is particularly concerning given the proximity of SKP Educational Campus, Rabindranath Tagore School, and Bharati Vidyapeeth School. Students, parents, women, senior citizens, and daily commuters are forced to pass through this stretch, making the situation intolerable for the community. Women, in particular, face harassment and discomfort due to the unruly behavior of intoxicated individuals.

Although complaints have been lodged repeatedly with Baner Police Station and action has been taken, the nuisance resumes once police presence is withdrawn.

A delegation comprising Shri Ganpatrao Balwadkar (President, Shri Khanderav Pratishthan), Ramesh Rokade, Moreshwar Balwadkar, Vaibhav Aadhav, Dafedar Singh, Ashish Kotamkar, Adv. Rupali Raykar, and Sunil Galankar submitted the representation to Atul Kanade, Superintendent, District Excise Department. The Superintendent assured that appropriate action will be taken to address the matter.

The Federation and Pratishthan have resolved that if the nuisance continues and citizens’ grievances remain unaddressed, they will initiate legal proceedings and organize peaceful protests to safeguard the rights and dignity of residents.
