Pune Baner Balewadi Nagrik Manch Urges PMC To Conduct Traffic Impact Study Before Opening Balewadi-Kaspate Wasti Bridge
Pune, May 9, 2026: Representatives of Baner-Balewadi Nagrik Manch (BBNM) met Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and submitted a memorandum highlighting the growing traffic concerns in the Baner-Balewadi area.
During the meeting, BBNM requested the Pune Municipal Corporation to carry out a Potential Future Traffic Impact Study before the proposed Balewadi-Kaspate Wasti bridge becomes operational. The organisation stated that while the bridge would improve connectivity between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Baner-Balewadi, it is also expected to significantly increase vehicular movement in the locality.
According to BBNM, thousands of additional vehicles are likely to enter Balewadi after the bridge opens, putting further pressure on already congested roads. The organisation pointed out that major junctions and roads including Mamta Chowk, Balewadi High Street, Dasara Chowk, Baner Road and several internal roads are expected to face severe traffic impact.
The group also raised concerns over daily congestion near schools in the area, which has been causing inconvenience to residents and commuters.
BBNM further highlighted the need for improved pedestrian infrastructure in view of the upcoming Metro services. The organisation stated that footpaths, safe pedestrian crossings and proper local area planning are currently inadequate and warned that lack of planning could lead to increased traffic confusion and accidents in the future.
Issues such as illegal and unplanned parking, encroachments, movement of heavy vehicles and incomplete internal roads were also discussed during the meeting, as these factors are adding pressure on the road network.
The organisation suggested that the proposed traffic study should include planning for traffic signals, no-parking zones, P1/P2 parking management, traffic islands, pedestrian facilities, proper signages and coordination with Pune Traffic Police.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram assured the delegation that the concerns raised by the residents’ group would be reviewed with the concerned departments.
BBNM stated that development in Baner-Balewadi should not be restricted to infrastructure projects alone, but should also focus on quality of life, safety and planned urban development for residents.
BBNM members Ameya Jagtap, Meghana Bhandari and Pushkar Kulkarni were present during the discussion.
