In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old medical student from Hyderabad has allegedly  been subjected to ragging in a city-based private medical college.
The incident came to light on Thursday late night when the victim Atharvan’s father Dr Venkataramana approached the college authorities and also met the other students. Atharvan completed his undergraduation (MBBS) from Telangana-based medical college and two months back, enrolled in Pimpri Chinchwad-based medical college for pursuing his masters degree.

Dr Venkataramana is a renowned nephrologist and his wife is a gynecologist.

Speaking to Pune Pulse Dr Venkatarama said, “Our son was subjected to harassment from day one as there is no proper check on the conduct of the seniors. For the past three days, he was confined to the ward by seniors. He was not given even food and water. He could not even sleep. This has led to not only mental but physical torture too. When contacted, his professor outright denied this incident, which is an utter lie.”

He added, “I am worried about my son’s physical and mental health if this continues. He’s appearing sick. I beg the police and the authorities to look into the matter and conduct an in-depth and impartial enquiry and punish the culprits. They have to ensure sanity prevails.”

When asked, Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Sanjay Shinde said, “We got the information and we are working on it.”

Advocate Akhil Ennamsetty, victim’s cousin said, “Students coming to Pune from other states should feel safe and secure. Students come to Pune with a lot of hope considering it to be the Oxford of the East.”
