Pune: Bavdhan Residents Stage ‘Rasta Roko’ Protest Over Pollution From RMC Plants
Pune, March 9, 2026: Residents of Bavdhan held a protest on Sunday against pollution and traffic problems allegedly caused by Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants operating in the locality. The agitation included a brief “rasta roko” demonstration and a march towards nearby RMC units, with participants demanding immediate action from authorities.
The protest was led by local corporator Kiran Dagade and saw the participation of a large number of residents from Bavdhan and surrounding areas. Demonstrators expressed concerns over rising dust pollution, environmental impact and traffic congestion caused by the continuous movement of heavy RMC vehicles through residential roads.
During the protest, residents briefly blocked the road and later marched towards the RMC plants to highlight their demands for stricter regulation and enforcement of environmental norms.
Advocate Krunnal Gharre, who has been following up on the issue with several government departments, said residents have repeatedly complained about dust pollution, heavy vehicle traffic and possible environmental violations by the RMC units. He added that despite earlier assurances from authorities, the problems have continued and stricter implementation of environmental regulations is required to protect public health.
Protesters demanded immediate steps to reduce dust pollution and regulate the movement of heavy vehicles so that RMC plants comply with environmental guidelines.
Residents urged authorities to intervene quickly to ensure better environmental safeguards and to improve the quality of life in Bavdhan.
