Pune Bengaluru Highway : State Excise Dept seizes illegal liquor worth Rs 1 crore from container near Khed Shivapur toll plaza

On January 1, 2024, the State Excise Department seized illegal alcohol hidden in a container at Khed Shivapur Toll Plaza whose cost is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore.

As per information shared by Yuvraj Shinde, Deputy Superintendent, State Excise Department, a team of State Excise Department, Saswad Division, on January 1, 2024, were inspecting vehicles at the Khed Shivapur toll plaza. A 10-wheeler container was stopped and interrogated about the things inside the container.

However, the driver of the container answered vaguely, hence, when the container was taken aside & inspected, it was found that paint cans were there inside the container.

However, when inspected properly, more than 1,000 liquor boxes were found behind the paint cans. The said liquor is permitted to be sold only in the state of Goa, not elsewhere, and its estimated price is Rs 1 crore.

The container driver did not have any transport pass, license or any other documents related to the transport of liquor. Hence, two accused have been detained and further investigation is going on at the Saswad division of the State Excise Department.
