Pune: BJP Urges Action on Swargate Incident, Calls for Citywide Audit of Overhead Cables
Pune, May 20, 2025 – A serious accident occurred today near Swar Gate on Sinhagad Road when a hanging internet cable suddenly snapped and fell, seriously injuring a citizen. The incident, which could have turned fatal, has raised grave concerns about public safety and the negligence of civic systems.
In response, a delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party met with officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) electrical department and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate action.
BJP city president Dheeraj Ghate stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive technical audit of all cables in the city.
He highlighted the widespread presence of unauthorized and poorly maintained internet and cable TV wires across Pune, stating that they pose a direct threat to citizens.

Ghate demanded the immediate identification and removal of such cables and accountability from the responsible companies through official notices.
Ghate also urged PMC to launch a dedicated helpline or online portal where citizens can report dangerous or hanging cables. Former corporator Mansi Deshpande, Sushil Mengde, Vishal Pawar, Pratul Jagade, and Vijay Gaikwad were part of the delegation. The memorandum was accepted by Shekatkar on behalf of PMC’s electrical department.
