Pune: On behalf of National Book Trust, India, ‘Pune Book Festival 2023’ will be organized on the grounds of Fergusson College, Pune from December 16 to 24. Milind Marathe, President of National Book Trust, informed during a press conference recently.

As per information, organizers of the festival Rajesh Pandey, President of Deccan Education Society Dr Sharad Kunte, and Vice President Dr Ravindra Acharya were present during the press conference. The emblem/insignia of the festival was unveiled at a press conference. This is going to be the first edition of the book festival in Pune city, which is known as ‘Oxford of the East’.

Milind Marathe said that extensive book collections in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, and other Indian languages with publishers of national fame will be held here. The festival will include more than two hundred publishers’ galleries, cultural performances, various sessions on literature, special activities for school students and collegians, delicious food stalls, etc.

Marathe further said that inspired by the success of festivals in Gomti, Ladakh, Ujjain, Shimla, and Shillong, National Book Trust (NBT) India has decided to nurture the love of books and reading culture through the Pune Book Festival. Literary delight is guaranteed at this week-long festival with a variety of engaging activities for all ages.

Rajesh Pandey said that Pune city has an atmosphere conducive to reading culture. This city has the potential to become a global market for books. From this came the concept of a book festival. This festival will be organized with the participation of all the universities, colleges, schools, literary institutes, libraries, publishing houses, writers, and scholars of the city.

Dr Sharad Kunte said that education is not limited to only chalk and board. Holistic development must happen. Therefore, inculcating reading culture among students is an important task. This work will be done on this occasion. Thousands of books will be present on this occasion.
