Wonderfold 2023 – Origami exhibition commences in Pune

Pune, November 23: Organized by Indutai Tilak Kala Kendra and Origami Mitra, an Origami Art exhibition ‘Wonderfold 2023’ commenced at the Tilak Smarak Mandir on Tilak Road today. 

The exhibition was inaugurated at the hands of Architect Narendra Dengle and Sculptor Satish Ghatpande.

Dignitaries like Dr. Deepak Tilak; great grandson of Lokmanya Tilak and Ex-Vice Chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Dr Geetali Tilak; Vice Chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Rajani Deval, Yashoda Wakankar, Sudhakar Joshi and Milind Kelkar; senior members of Origami Mitra including other members were also present on the occasion.

Open to all, ‘Wonderfold 2023’ will be exhibited from 23 till 26 November from 10 am to 8 pm on all days, with an entry fee of Rs 20.

This is the 17th edition of this exhibition which is held biennially. However, this edition is being organized after a gap of four years due to the pandemic informed Milind Kelkar; a member of the organizing committee and an Origami artist.  

“Origami is known as a part of the Japanese traditional art to the world. Today in the exhibition, I got a glimpse of the impressive folds that are made through this art,” said Narendra Dengle. He also highlighted the need to look at many such values from the Japanese culture through different perspectives.

“The transformation of a simple piece of paper into something attractive is unique. People should expand their imaginations through Origami,” mentioned Satish Ghatpande. Dr. Deepak Tilak also shared memories of his mother with Origami.

Two young Origami artists; Manas Joshi and Aryan Kashikar were highly appreciated by the guests. Manas creates ‘Unit’ Origami and Aryan is a Guinness World Record holder in the art.

Origami is a Japanese art that involves creating miniature models of various things only with the use of paper folds. 500 art pieces of Origami created by about 35 to 40 Origami Artists from Pune and Mumbai are on display in this exhibition. 

Additionally, some folds have also been received from Sweden. Beautiful lampshades, animals and birds, flowers, mandalas, quilts, abstract, geometrical patterns, musical instruments, buildings, etc. are on display. Pradnya Kashikar anchored the program.
