Pune: Bootcamp on ‘Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Drone Technologies’, organized at Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering, Pune (BV(DU)COE). 

Sajeevan G(Senior Director, C-DAC Pune, Chief Investigator PMGSY National GIS, GeoSevak) was chief guest for inauguration ceremony.Also present for the occasion were Guest of Honor Dr. Vivek Saoji(Vice Chancellor, BV(DU), Dr. Sivakumar(Joint Director, C-DAC Pune), Kaushal Sharma(Joint Director, C-DAC Pune and Chief Investigator- UAS/ Drone Project), Harshada Deshpande(Principal Technical Officer at C-DAC Pune, Co-ChiefInvestigator-UAS/ Drone Technology & FS PRIME – AI Technology Projects), Dr. Vidula Sohoni, (Principal, BV(DU)COE), Dr. Deepak Bankar(Program Incharge), Program Coordinators Snehal Chaudhary and  Sudharshana Abbad.

80 students and faculties from all departments of BV(DU)COE have registered for this boot camp. The inaugural function was attended by these participants, Heads of all departments of BV(DU)COE, speakers of various sessions of the boot camp. The program was hosted by Snehal Chaudhary and  Sudharshana Abbad proposed the vote of thanks.

Government spending crores on capacity building for drone technologies – said Sajeevan G, Senior Director, C-DAC Pune, Chief Investigator PMGSY National GIS, GeoSevak. During his talk he said that drones technologies and unmanned aircraft systems is an emerging area not only technology wise but also for applications in wide areas of use. He informed about the new policies and principles applied by the Government to facilitate and promote research and practice of these drone technologies. He gave a brief introduction of how drone

technology is being put to use in the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. He also informed how students could identify their learning and research opportunities in these areas.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the inauguration of five days “Bootcamp on Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Drone Technologies”, organized at Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering, Pune (BV(DU)COE). Also present for the occasion were Guest of Honor Dr. Vivek Saoji, Vice Chancellor, BV(DU), Dr. Sivakumar, Joint Director, C-DAC Pune, Mr. Kaushal Sharma, Joint Director, C-DAC Pune and Chief Investigator-
UAS/ Drone Project, Harshada Deshpande, Principal Technical Officer at C-DAC Pune, Co-Chief Investigator-UAS/ Drone Technology & FS PRIME – AI Technology Projects, Dr. Vidula Sohoni, Principal, BV(DU)COE, Dr. Deepak Bankar, Program Incharge, Program Coordinators Snehal Chaudhary and Mrs Sudharshana Abbad.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Sivakumar informed the applications of drones in service areas with the revenue and job creations involved in every sector involving drones technologies highlighting the government policies involved. Discussing the endless possibilities of drones technologies usage and research, he mentioned 10000 jobs will be created in the manufacturing
sector of drones whereas 10 lakh jobs shall be created in service industry and 30000crore rupees industry growth is expected in a few years time. Drone market growth is expected to increase 10.2% every year, he said.

Mr. Kaushal Sharma interacted with the students on their ideas where drones can find their applications. He also mentioned that outstanding students from this boot camp could get an opportunity for further pursuing research projects. Ms Harshada Deshpande informed a short overview and expected outcomes of this boot camp.

Dr. Vivek Saoji addressed the participants with the importance of learning about recent trends other than curriculum. He also discussed how students should make best of such opportunities and delve further in research or exploring further to enhance their skills and aptitude. He congratulated the organizing team for organizing such a training program which is the need of the current industry.

Dr. Vidula Sohoni, Principal, BV(DU)COE, informed the gathering about the rankings, awards and achievements of the institute. She informed that BV(DU)COE is being registered as one of the SPOKES on NASSCOM for conducting advanced skill development programs in collaboration with C-DAC. She also said, BV(DU)COE organizes such training programmes for

students and faculty with a focus to increase the industry institute interaction, enhance the research attributes and percolate latest trends to students through the faculty.
