Pune: The road from Bopodi Chowk to Shivajinagar on the old Mumbai-Pune highway will be opened from September 1. The administration said that this road will be opened for two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and four-wheeler vehicles. So, the citizens will get a big relief from traffic congestion.

As per the information, metro work starts between Bopodi and Samvidhan Chowk. Also, traffic was closed between Bopodi and Khadki station for two years due to road widening and concreting work. The traffic towards Shivajinagar on this route was diverted through Khadki Bazar. Therefore, the vehicles going towards Shivaji Nagar had to come to Aare Chowk and proceed.

Due to this traffic, there are long queues of vehicles from Bopodi, Khadki, and Aundh road to Pimpri. Due to traffic jams and bad roads, citizens have to suffer. Various political parties and organizations were demanding that the road from Bopodi Chowk to Shivaji Nagar should be opened for traffic due to the completion of metro work.

Efforts are being made by Pune Municipal Corporation and Pune Traffic Department to resolve this issue. The meetings were held with the coordination of MLA Siddharth Shirole, Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakane, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Magar.

After a joint inspection last week, it was planned to start the road coming from Bopodi Chowk to Shivajinagar. Accordingly, the administration has informed that a decision has been taken to open this road.

Encroachments on this road have been largely removed. Though the road is being opened, it will take another two to three months to complete the remaining widening and concreting work. The administration informed that all kinds of traffic will be started as a dual carriageway after this road becomes eight-lane.
