A horrifying tale of marital abuse has surfaced, where a couple faced relentless mental and physical torment simply because they failed to present a luxury car at their wedding. The harrowing ordeal unfolded in Lonavala and Baner between September 2015 and March 22, 2024, resulting in the Chatushrungi Police registering a case against the in-laws under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 498 (A), 504, 506, and 34.

Yogesh Namdev Chavan (40), along with his mother-in-law Vimal Namdev Chavan (65), father-in-law Namdev Rambhau Chavan (70), and brothers-in-law Deer Ujwal Namdev Chavan (46) and Suhas Namdev Chavan (44), all residents of Shraysaphalya, Adarsh Colony, Lonavala, stand accused in this distressing saga, brought to light by a 34-year-old married woman hailing from Aundh, who filed a complaint. The couple shares a daughter.

Per details from the Chatushrungi police, the complainant and Yogesh tied the knot in 2015. Post-marriage, Yogesh’s parents relentlessly pressured him to procure a Mercedes car for the wedding, coupled with an insistence on hosting the ceremony at the Marriott Hotel. Failure to comply was met with threats of calling off the marriage.

Despite the inability to fulfill these extravagant demands, the bride’s family faced incessant harassment from the in-laws post-wedding, particularly targeting the bride’s father for not providing the luxury car. The bride herself was subjected to demeaning remarks, questioning her upbringing and ability to maintain societal stature.

Adding to her plight, Yogesh, her husband, transitioned from employment to entrepreneurship, pressuring her to seek financial assistance from her parents for the business. Refusal led to threats of abandonment. The relentless abuse extended to verbal and physical assaults, escalating into a nightmarish scenario where the safety of the bride’s family was threatened if their demands weren’t met.

A case is filed at the Chatushrungi Police Station Senior based on the married woman’s complaint.
