Pune Cable Duct Scam Allegations: Complaint Filed, Legal Action Threatened
Pune: Allegations of a multi-crore scam in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the laying of cable ducts have surfaced. It is claimed that PMC officials from the road, disaster management, and legal departments entered into an agreement with a private company that financially benefited telecom companies at the expense of the municipal corporation.
Sunil Mane, Maharashtra Pradesh General Secretary of the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), accused the PMC of failing to protect public funds. Addressing a press conference, he warned that if the Municipal Commissioner does not clarify the issue within eight days, a police complaint will be filed, and legal action will be pursued.
Mane alleged that illegal underground and overhead cables are being laid across the city, causing PMC to lose revenue worth crores of rupees. He further claimed that the private company involved has a history of irregularities in multiple states, including submitting fake certificates during tender processes.
The contract to lay cable ducts in Pune was awarded to Mahapreet, a state government company. However, the subcontractor chosen for the work has faced serious allegations in other states.
Mane criticized PMC’s new agreement, which allows telecom companies to install cables by simply notifying the corporation, bypassing strict municipal oversight. He warned that this lack of regulation could lead to large-scale financial losses and political favoritism.
Mane urged Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale to investigate the matter, warning that if no action is taken, the case will be taken to court and law enforcement authorities.
