On Sunday, July 7, the Pune Forest Department took action against five underage individuals for trespassing into the restricted forest zone of Vetal Tekdi, causing disturbances to visitors and wildlife. The Forest Department filed a case under section 26 (1) of the Indian Forest Act 1927 and is currently working on compiling a formal document of charges against the minors.

Pradip Sankpal, who is the range forest officer at Bhamburda Range, mentioned, “On Sunday around 7.15 pm, our forest guards were on patrol in the restricted forest region of Vetal Tekdi when they discovered that five minors, riding three motorcycles, had entered the restricted forest area. These minors were engaged in arguments and behaving inappropriately towards other individuals who were out for a walk, as well as causing disturbance to the wildlife by honking loudly. Additionally, the minors ventured into the water body within the mining area. The forest guards promptly arrived at the scene and apprehended all five suspects for further investigation.”

“In the initial investigation, the officials discovered that all the individuals involved were college students. The forest department has filed a case against the students under the Indian Forest Act, and they will face penalties as per the relevant sections,” stated Sankpal.

Moreover, access to the mining area is strictly forbidden. If anyone is caught breaking these regulations, the department has full authority to enforce severe measures against them. Citizens can also report any such incidents to the department through the helpline number 1926.”

It’s concerning to hear about the multiple issues at Vetal Tekdi, including deforestation, encroachment, and safety concerns for visitors. It’s essential for the authorities to address these issues promptly and take decisive actions to safeguard the environment and ensure the safety of those who frequent the area. The demands from concerned citizens for robust measures from the authorities highlight the significance of protecting and preserving natural spaces like Vetal Tekdi.
