During the evening in Pune’s viman Nagar, a group of young men attacked a local paan shop after the shopkeeper refused to hand over cigarettes without payment. CCTV footage recorded around 8:30 PM shows 4–5 youths taking cigarettes from the counter. When the vendor stopped giving them more, one of the men, wearing a black hoodie, pulled out a koyta and began striking the shop from multiple angles, causing noticeable damage. He also grabbed several boxes of cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

Despite CCTV cameras capturing the incident, the attackers showed no hesitation, prompting criticism of local law enforcement. Residents have called out the police for inaction, with one person demanding the suspension of officers from Vimantal Police Station and Viman Nagar Police Chowky.

The video, shared on X, sparked discussions online. Many users pointed to unemployment and lack of education as reasons for such attacks, while others urged stricter policing, citing examples from Mumbai. One comment said, “While police focus on shutting down shisha lounges and restaurants, serious criminal issues are being overlooked.”

Incidents like this are shocking because some youths can go to extreme lengths that can harm others over something as trivial as a free cigarette. It shows the reckless behavior, lack of empathy, and sheer audacity of people who think taking what isn’t theirs is acceptable.
