Pune: Chandrakant Patil Reviews Conservation Measures After Tree Vandalism On Kothrud Hills
Pune, January 7, 2025:
Following a shocking incident of vandalism on Kothrud’s Mhatoba, Pashan, and Mahatma hills, where miscreants attempted to set newly planted trees on fire, MLA Chandrakant Patil conducted an on-site inspection with forest department officials to review the damage and strengthen conservation efforts.
The plantation, carried out on the occasion of Patil’s birthday, included trees of medicinal and environmental importance. Despite comprehensive measures for their upkeep, the incident highlighted the need for stricter monitoring.
During the inspection, Patil issued directives to prevent similar acts in the future. Proposed measures include:
- – Erecting watchtowers to safeguard the plantation.
- – Installing solar-powered streetlights around the Mhatoba Temple area to deter nighttime vandalism.
- – Increasing manpower for tree maintenance and removal of dry vegetation.
- – Organizing environmental conservation camps to raise awareness.
- – Restricting grazing activities on the hills.
- – Strengthening patrolling efforts, especially during afternoon and evening hours.
A meeting is scheduled for January 13 to address the challenges in tree conservation. The session will include dialogue with administration officials and environmental enthusiasts to devise solutions.
The inspection was attended by Chief Conservator of Forests Manoj Barbole, Assistant Deputy Conservator Deepak Pawar, BJP Kothrud South Mandal President Dr. Sandeep Butala, and members of local environmental groups, including Damodar Kumbare, Rohidas Sutar, and others.
Efforts are now underway to bolster tree conservation and preserve the ecological balance of the region.
