Pune: Charity Commissioner Orders Status Quo in HND Jain Boarding Land Case, Suspends Property Deals
Mumbai, October 20, 2025: In a significant development in the H.N.D. Jain Boarding land sale case, the Charity Commissioner, Amogh Kaloti, conducted an urgent hearing today and issued a “Status Quo” order, temporarily halting all property-related transactions and instructing a detailed inquiry into the temple situated on the premises.
Advocate Yogesh Pande, representing the petitioners, presented a strong and fact-based argument, stating that the H.N.D. Jain Boarding institution was established to provide education and accommodation to students. He argued that any redevelopment or sale of the property violates the original charitable intent and contravenes charity laws. Furthermore, he alleged that crucial information was concealed while seeking approval from the Charity Commissioner’s office, making it necessary to maintain the current status and protect students’ rights.
After hearing the submissions, Commissioner Kaloti issued the following directives:
No sale, transfer, construction, or transaction of the property shall take place until further orders.
The current status of the property must be maintained (Status Quo).
Proper care must be taken to preserve the institution’s charitable nature.
A detailed inquiry must be conducted regarding the temple located on the property, including:
- Whether a temple actually exists there.
- Which deity it is dedicated to.
- Who manages the temple’s upkeep and rituals.
- The exact area occupied by the temple.
- Whether the proposed redevelopment would harm the temple in any way.
The Charity Commissioner has directed that a comprehensive report on these points be submitted to his office following a thorough investigation.
Reacting to the order, Laxmikant Khabia said, “This is the first legal victory in our fight. Our movement to protect faith and students’ interests has now reached a decisive stage.”
Akshay Jain added, “The inquiry into the temple and the charitable purpose will now reveal the full truth to society. This is not merely about property — it’s about preserving education, faith, and values.”
Several members of the Jain community, including Laxmikant Khabia and Akshay Jain, were present during the hearing.
