Pune Municipal Commissioner Acts Tough: Immediate Transfers and Suspensions After Visit In Manjri And Shewalewadi
Pune, October 20, 2025: Pune Municipal Commissioner carried out an early morning inspection of the Shewalwadi and Manjari areas on October 18 to review cleanliness, drainage systems, potholes, encroachments, and sewage management. During the visit, the Commissioner expressed strong displeasure over the poor sanitation, garbage accumulation, and inadequate civic maintenance.
When questioned, local officials and staff failed to provide satisfactory answers, prompting the Commissioner to order strict action against negligent and inefficient personnel. The Commissioner warned that henceforth, officers showing negligence or poor performance would face departmental inquiries, suspension, or immediate transfers to non-executive posts.
During the visit, Assistant Commissioner of the Hadapsar Regional Office, Balasaheb Dhawale Patil, was abruptly transferred, and Executive Engineer Ravi Khandare was appointed in his place. Additionally, a branch engineer from the Drainage Department, a health inspector from the Solid Waste Management Department, and a mukadam were suspended for unsatisfactory work.
Just two days earlier, during an inspection of the Wagholi area under the Nagar Road regional office, the Commissioner had similarly ordered the immediate transfer of Assistant Commissioner Sheetal Wakde and two officials from the Drainage Department—Deputy Engineer Vinayak Shinde and Officer Ganesh Puram—for inaction on drainage and encroachment issues.
The Commissioner also expressed displeasure over the unclean condition of dividers along the Pune–Solapur Highway and directed concerned departments to take urgent measures for improvement.
Emphasizing accountability, the Commissioner stated, “Officials must work effectively to resolve issues of sanitation, traffic congestion, drainage, and encroachments across the city, or strict disciplinary action will follow.”
This series of actions has sent a strong message to negligent officials, signaling the administration’s renewed commitment to ensuring efficient civic services and maintaining the city’s cleanliness and order.
