The unreasonable tree cutting by the Pune Municipal Corporation to extend footpath and build a cycle track has attracted a strong oppose from the local residents and environmental enthusiasts. The decision by PMC to build the amenity has been termed “Foolish move only meant to finish off the ground level”, alleged Deepak Shrote, a local resident.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Shrote said, “This is brutal killings of six trees on the road. After citizens realised the illegal chopping of trees, as the notices too weren’t put up fifteen days ago. The tree cutters soon escaped the place but this cruel and ravaging act by PMC is against the nature interest.”

Another resident, Rajesh Chawre, added that “We will strongly oppose such an act because we residents don’t feel the need to have another foot path in the place even when existing footpath is hardly being used and stands out to be in good condition.”
