November 6, 2024, Pune: The Pune Congress party’s city unit has demanded the suspension of party leaders rebelling against the party by contesting the upcoming state assembly elections. Arvind Shinde, city unit head, stated that contesting elections despite being denied party tickets amounts to anti-party activity.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance struggled to contain the rebellion in three Pune seats, despite top-level efforts to convince hopefuls to withdraw nominations. Aba Bagul, Kamal Vyavahare, and Manish Anand will contest from Parvati, Kasba Peth, and Shivajinagar, respectively.

Vyavahare, who resigned from the party’s primary membership, doubts the party can take action against him. Bagul and Anand claim they haven’t received any letters or notices from the state.

The rebellion has put Congress in a precarious position in Pune, where seven of eight seats are held by Mahayuti (five BJP and two NCP). The sole MVA seat, Kasba Peth, is now contested by rebel Vyavahare.
