Pune, November 27, 2025: In a major step toward strengthening law enforcement, the Pune Police Commissionerate is preparing for a substantial structural expansion to meet the demands of the city’s rapidly growing population and widening urban limits. Senior officials said that the state government is expected to issue an official notification shortly.

As part of the proposed reorganisation, two new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) posts will be added to the existing framework. The city currently operates with five police zones, but the new plan will introduce Zone 6 and Zone 7, aimed at improving regional supervision and operational efficiency.

Alongside the zonal expansion, Pune will also get five new police stations in fast-developing areas—Narhe, Laxminagar, Yewalewadi, Manjari and Lohegaon. These localities have witnessed rapid residential and commercial growth in recent years, placing additional pressure on existing policing resources.

Once operational, the addition of these stations will bring the total number of police stations within Pune city limits to 45. Officials say the decision was essential given the city’s accelerated pace of urbanisation, increased public movement and rising law-and-order challenges.

Administration sources believe the restructuring will streamline policing, ensure quicker response times and enhance on-ground presence. The official government order is expected soon, after which the new setup will be implemented across the city.
