The Health Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made the decision to inspect every private hospital in the city in response to the disputes surrounding the efficient application of the regulations governing the private hospitals in the city. According to the officials, a committee will be appointed by the civic body soon to carry out special inspections.

Several well-known city hospitals, including Ruby Hall Clinic, Jehangir Hospital, Healing Hand Clinic, KEM Hospital, Global Hospital, and four branches of Sahyadri Hospitals, have previously received show-cause notices from the Public Health Department for breaking a number of rules.

The move, though, brought into question PMC’s negligence as the local organization was unable to identify the shortcomings at these hospitals.

A committee will be formed and led by the deputy health officer who will be appointed in a few weeks, according to a senior PMC official.

He further said that the committee will examine all of the city’s private hospitals to make sure they abide by the laws controlling medical facilities. Every hospital is inspected by ward medical officers once every six months. They are unaware of how the public health department discovered the flaws that the PMC officials were unable to recognize.

As mandated by the Maharashtra Nursing Home Registration Act 1949, the PMC has 899 private hospitals and clinics under registration. Additionally, the hospitals were inspected by the Public Health Department to ensure that they complied with a number of regulations, including MPCB, infection control, structural audits, and fire NOCs. The inspections were carried out in response to previous complaints from patients and citizens.
