The Congress party workers in Pune city agitated against Union Minister Smriti Irani on Friday for her ‘insulting’ comments on Congress party president Sonia Gandhi.

The party members gathered outside the Congress Bhavan in Pune on Friday, July 29, 2022 and showcased their protest by blackening and burning the images of Smriti Irani.

The members also raised slogans asking Minister Irani to render apology.

Talking about the issue, Sangeeta Tiwari, vice president of Maharashtra Pradesh Mahila Congress, said, “ Sonia Gandhi is an apostate who gave up the post of the Prime Minister. Irani who runs a bar illegally should not talk about our leader. We will never tolerate criticism of our leader.”

Pooja Anand, president of Pune City Women’s Congress, said, ” The incident which happened in the Parliament is disrespectful. We have utmost respect for our leader and will never tolerate such behaviour towards our leader.”

Avinash Bagwe, president, Pune City, Indian National Congress said, ” Minister Irani’s speech does not suit her position. Such language is maligning the image of the parliament.

There was allegedly unpleasant exchange of words on Thursday between Smriti Irani and Sonia Gandhi in the Parliament over President Droupadi Murmu.
