Pune : The selection process for honorary positions on the Board of Studies (BoS) at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has come under radar after alleged violations of rules and misuse of power. Recently, the results of the process for various faculties were announced, which involved two options for eligible candidates to apply – an election process or submission of an application with documentary evidence to the applicable committee of the SPPU. Only those who applied could be considered, and candidates who did not apply were not eligible for selection.

However, it was alleged that several instances of violations were reported, including the name of a candidate who was elected unopposed being mentioned in the Co-option category without having applied for it. Another prominent figure was found with their name mentioned in multiple BoS, and some candidates found their names on BoS for which they never applied.

Such misuse of power and rule-tweaking has raised questions about the integrity of the selection process. However when we contacted Prafulla Pawar, Registrar of SPPU he refuted all allegations made and said, ” We have followed all procedures and there is no need to be worried about it.”
