Pune: In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Cell-I of Pune Crime Branch arrested a 52-year-old man and seized 1 kilogram and 90 grams of opium valued at ₹21.8 lakh. The operation is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes.

The accused, identified as Nathuram Jeevanram Jat, a resident of Rajasthan, was apprehended near Unnati Dham Society in Pune. Officers from the Anti-Narcotics Cell became suspicious of Jat’s behavior as he carried a red travel bag. Upon interrogation and a subsequent search, they uncovered the concealed opium, which was brought to the city with the intention of illegal sale for financial gain.

An FIR has been lodged against Jat under Sections 8(c) and 17(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Kondhwa Police Station. During questioning, Jat confessed to smuggling the drugs into Pune to earn quick money.
