Pune Crime: Woman in a Live-In Relationship Allegedly Murdered by Partner in Wagholi Over Suspected Infidelity
Pune, June 4: A 26-year-old woman was found dead in a locked house in Pune’s Wagholi area after local residents reported a foul smell coming from the property. Police have arrested her live-in partner in connection with the case.
The deceased has been identified as Rihata Khatun, a native of West Bengal’s Medinipur district. According to police, she had been living with the accused, Ravi Sameer Vairal, in the Awhalwadi area of Wagholi for nearly two years.
Investigators said the couple frequently argued, as Ravi allegedly suspected Rihata’s character. According to police, an argument allegedly broke out between the two on May 28, during which Ravi is accused of assaulting and strangling her.
Police said the accused allegedly locked the house and fled after the incident. The case came to light several days later when neighbours noticed a strong foul smell coming from the locked residence and alerted the police.
Police officials rushed to the spot, broke open the lock and entered the house. Inside, they found Rihata’s body in a decomposed state.
Based on a complaint filed by a resident, Wagholi Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation. The accused was later traced and arrested.
Senior Police Inspector Nand Kumar Gaikwad of Wagholi Police Station said the accused had initially intended to marry Rihata, but frequent disputes allegedly arose after he began doubting her character.
The accused has been remanded to police custody, and further investigation into the case is underway.
