Pune Customs Seize Leopard Skin From Dairy Shop Workers ; 1 Person Held

On 18th August, the Pune Customs department had seized leopard skin from a Satara based gang.

As per information from Pune Customs, specific intelligence was received by the officers of Pune Customs that a gang operating in Satara is engaged in illegal trade of wildlife. Upon receiving information that the gang is attempting to smuggle out a leopard skin, the Officers of Pune Customs reached Satara in the morning hours of 18-08-2023.

The officers searched the premises of one of the gang members, which was disguised as a dairy shop. During the search, a Leopard skin was recovered from the possession of the gang member working there in Satara. 

The other member of the gang had already left for Dubai. During the investigation it was revealed that the gang was trying to find an overseas buyer and in-turn smuggle it out of the country. A person has been arrested and produced at Satara Court and is now in judicial custody.

Leopard Skin is seized under Section 110 of Customs Act, 1962 read with Section 50 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 as amended. One person has been held in this. Further investigation is under progress.
