Pune customs seizes foreign brand and e – cigarettes from Kothrud, Baner and Sinhagad road smuggled into city for sale

Pune: In a recent operation, the Pune unit of the Customs Department  took decisive action against the illegal smuggling of foreign brand cigarettes and e-cigarettes from China and other countries,said officials.

Acting on valuable intelligence inputs, officials from the  Pune Customs Department conducted targeted raids on various establishments, including shops and associated godowns located in Kothrud, Baner, and Sinhagad Road in Pune on May 19.

The search operation proved to be fruitful as the officials successfully seized a significant quantity of foreign brand cigarettes and e-cigarettes valued at Rs 51 lakh. It was determined that these items had been smuggled into Pune through unlawful means, originating from multiple countries such as China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates, said officials.

Among the seized items were well-known foreign-branded cigarettes and e-cigarette brands, which further highlighted the scale and magnitude of the illegal smuggling operation. Additionally, the officials discovered that the confiscated e-cigarettes were specifically manufactured and imported from China, underscoring the country’s involvement in this illicit trade.

This operation by the Pune Customs Department serves as a strong deterrent against the rampant smuggling of foreign brand cigarettes and e-cigarettes, which pose various risks to public health and contribute to the proliferation of counterfeit goods. 

The successful raid and seizure of these items demonstrate the vigilance and effectiveness of the Customs Department in combating such illegal activities, protecting the interests of the nation and its citizens.
