Pune : Two dead, three severely injured as bus rams into multiple vehicles on NIBM road
In a tragic incident today, a motorist died on the spot, while three people were seriously injured as bus rammed into multiple vehicles. The incident took place at Palace Orchards society, NIBM – Undri road, Kondhwa. The speeding bus driver lost control over the vehicle as the breaks failed leading to the severe accident.
The eye witnesses informed that the accident was so severe that one person died on the spot, three were injured and many vehicles were damaged severely.
The local residents in the last few years have been demanding prompt action on controlling heavy vehicles which cross through this road. There are various RMC trucks, water tankers, heavy vehicles which continuously pass through this road making it prone for accidents. The Y junction outside Palace Orchards has become risky too due to construction material being dropped on the road making the road unlevelled.
Residents call for prompt measures to curb accidents on NIBM – Undri road
The local residents had in the past few months got speed breakers installed on the road but were removed by some miscreants. The local residents informed that speeding vehicles often lead to causing accident.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Prajakta Pethkar, a resident of Palace Orchards informed, “We, the residents of NIBM road have been demanding installation of speed breakers, widening of the road and deployment of traffic personnel at the Y junction near Palace Orchards and Ishratbaug. The road needs to be levelled and the unauthorised vehicles must not be allowed to park on the road. But our pleas have gone unheard. PMC, Traffic police must chalk out a plan to curb accidents by taking up speedy measures.”
Another resident complained that the area has been neglected by Pune Municipal Corporation. There are about four schools in the vicinity and fear looms over the citizens about similar accidents everyday. Police and PMC must take prompt action and resolve the issues of congestion. At this moment, only one road is available to travel, whereas few roads are severely damaged and under repairs.
“That road is dangerous because of the steep gradient. Last time also there was an accident and we all had demanded reduction of slope. PMC officials only visit the areas, there has been no action on the visit that took place, complained a resident of a neighbouring society.
B Salunkhe, Handewadi Traffic division official told Pune Pulse that we shall initiate stern action against heavy vehicles passing through this area. We have been continuously taking action on such heavy vehicles.
Santosh Sonawane, SPI, Kondhwa traffic division said, “Two people have died in the accident while few others are severely injured. The vehicles have been removed from the accident spot and vehicles are allowed to move from the NIBM – Undri road. Motorists must drive cautiously. The bus rammed into six vehicles at least as the brakes failed.”
The bus driver has been arrested. The truck number MH 12 HB 0242 – The Time Travel lost control over its speed and rammed into multiple vehicles. Autorickshaw driver Madhu Kuwar, Alister Merchant are injured and shifted to hospital for further treatment, Piaggio tempo driver and another person were shifted to hospital as they sustained injuries, two cars were damaged in the incident, car owners Mohsin Shaikh from Old Modikhana, and Nikhil Bakshi from Nyati Epitome while Rajesh Jandial, a biker sustained minor injuries. Two people, Prashant Ghemud and an unidentified two wheeler driver lost their lives in the accident.
