Pune: A man from Magarpatta was duped of Rs 18 lakhs in an online financial fraud. The victim has been identified as Sharad Gupta, a resident of Magarpatta.

As per information, the fraudster contacted Gupta through social media promising lucrative earnings from online tasks. Gupta was tricked into investing a large sum of money in online tasks to earn a commission.  The incident occurred between May and June 2023.

The cyber thief managed to trick the young man into transferring away a sum of Rs 18 lakhs. 

Later, Gupta, a 39-year-old resident of Magarpatta realized that he had been deceived; he promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to an official investigation. An FIR has been registered against the cybercriminals involved, with ongoing police investigations into the matter.

The rise of online scams has led to a concerning trend of financial fraud, preying on unsuspecting individuals looking for part-time work. These fraudsters entice people with the promise of easy money from home-based jobs or social media engagement.
