Pune : The renowned Deccan Queen Express has been causing dissatisfaction among passengers as it is consistently running late for the past 10 to 12 days since August 1. This delay has resulted in inconvenience for commuters traveling between Pune and Mumbai, causing tardiness in reaching their workplaces.

The Deccan Queen Express holds historical significance as the first deluxe train connecting Pune and Mumbai. While it was once synonymous with punctuality, the train has been grappling with daily delays.

In a conversation with Pune Pulse, Harsha Shah, President of the Railway Pravasi Sangh, expressed concerns, stating, “The negligence and irresponsibility of the Pune Railway Division have led to distress for Deccan Queen Express passengers. Despite being designated as a Deluxe Express, this iconic train faces setbacks due to prioritizing local trains. How long must the Deccan Queen endure this plight?”

The following details the extent of the delays in Deccan Queen’s departures from August 1st to August 10th:

Balwadkar
  • 1st August: Delayed by 12 Minutes
  • 2nd August: Delayed by 14 Minutes
  • 3rd August: Delayed by 14 Minutes
  • 4th August: Delayed by 44 Minutes
  • 5th August: Delayed by 52 Minutes
  • 6th August: Delayed by 13 Minutes
  • 7th August: Delayed by 14 Minutes
  • 8th August: Delayed by 11 Minutes
  • 9th August: Delayed by 14 Minutes
  • 10th August: Delayed by 13 Minutes

Formerly, the Deccan Queen’s distinct appeal lay in its precision, departing Pune station at 7:30 AM and arriving at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (formerly VT) exactly twenty minutes past ten. In its prime, other trains would halt at stations to allow the Deccan Queen to pass without interruption.

However, recent days have witnessed significant delays, ranging from 11 to 52 minutes, leading to growing dissatisfaction among regular passengers.

The Deccan Queen recently celebrated its 93rd anniversary of service on June 1st, 2023.

Previously, a dedicated railway track facilitated the Deccan Queen’s seamless journey, a luxury that is no longer extended. As a consequence, government and private sector employees, along with everyday commuters, are bearing the brunt of delayed arrivals.
