Pune: After missing successive deadlines set by the Airport Authority of India (AAI), the work on the new terminal of Pune airport has now been completed and the testing of the passenger facilities here has also started. The building is likely to be inaugurated in September. This will increase the number of flights operating from the airport. As a result, the number of passengers will also increase.

As per information, the existing terminal building at the Pune airport was limited in space, limiting the expansion of passenger services. It also affected the number of passengers during peak season, the strain it puts on facilities, security check-in and the number of flights.

The AAI recognized this problem and decided to expand Pune Airport. For that, the work of building a new terminal was undertaken. This magnificent building was constructed at a cost of around Rs 525 crores. Passengers will get international standard facilities here. The same facilities are currently being tested. The trial will continue for one month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the new terminal in September 2023.

The new terminal will be added to the existing terminal at Pune Airport. The bridge construction work is in progress. Passengers can use three bridges to move from one terminal to another. This will divide the crowd. International flights will take off from the new terminal. Also, if there is a crowding of passengers in the old terminal, the administration has planned to fly domestic flights from the new terminal at the same time.

The following services are being tested for the new terminal:

· Escalator

· Lift

· Aerobridge

· Multiple Display

· In-Line Baggage Screening System

· Check-In Counter

· Baggage Belt

The new terminal of the Pune airport will be of 60 thousand square feet. The passenger capacity will be 1 crore 20 lakh per year. 5 aerobridges will be constructed for the new terminal.

Here are some of the features of the new terminal:

· Use of sensors for crowd control

· Use of new In Line Baggage System to track passenger’s baggage check time.

Due to this, passengers will not have to wait in the queue. Also, due to this system, the bag does not have to be carried on the belt from the X-ray machine. A new machine will do the job. As a result, the time of passengers will be saved

· Big lounge which also includes a commercial lounge for passengers to relax

· Use of skylights at airports to reduce carbon footprint

· Separate arrangement for children to play

· Restaurant
