The ongoing construction of a flyover on Sinhagad Road, stretching from Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theatre, has hit a snag. A vital pillar located in the Hingne area has been deemed substandard by quality regulators. In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued directives to the contracted construction company to rectify the issue by dismantling a portion of the pillar and reinforcing it with an extended layer of cement concrete.

Shrinivas Bonala, the Head of PMC’s Project Department, shared insights with Pune Pulse, affirming that the deficient pillar will be fortified by applying an augmented layer of cement concrete. He emphasized that this approach will effectively rectify the structural concern associated with the insufficient cement concrete layer in that particular pillar.

A meticulous evaluation of the construction’s quality was conducted by an independent third party. During this assessment, a total of ten pillars between Santosh Hall Chowk and Vitthalwadi were scrutinized. Regrettably, a prominent flaw was uncovered within a flyover pillar situated close to the Hingne vicinity. Notably, the cement quality of this pillar was classified as ‘M30’ instead of the prescribed ‘M35’ grade.

Consequently, PMC is taking immediate action to rectify the situation by injecting the required quantities of cement and concrete. This proactive measure aims not only to address the existing concern but also to streamline the progress of the pending flyover construction.
